Acrylic

h1 Monday, December 24th, 2007

I have a problem with acrylic.  No, I’m not a yarn snob.  My problem is that acrylic is just too affordable.  I go to Joann’s or Michael’s and can’t stop myself.  Next thing I know, I’m sitting at home with five new skeins of yarn around me with no idea how I got there.

I’ve got a bin full of different acrylics and no idea what to do with them.  An afghan won’t work out, since I don’t have that kind of attention span.  The last time I tried that, I ended up with more yarn.  So — scarves.  I know I am in California where it is only cold enough to wear for a month or so, but I’m desperate.  Yarn is being stuffed in every spare space in my closet.

I need to get rid of some of my stash.  Today I’m gonna start my first crochet scarf.  No idea what color or pattern, but it is happening.

Then again, there is a sale at Joann’s today…

Calorimetry

h1 Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

Another head-thing! I’ve been contemplating knitting Calorimetry for ages now. On Friday, I finally just did it. I used some handspun that I didn’t like so much in case it didn’t turn out. I really adore the finished product, though! It striped up perfectly, all on its own.

Pattern: Calorimetry

Yarn: Hadspun

Mods: Size 7 US needles, 100 st across, less than 15 repeats of row 5

^ Flat. This shows the colors and how it striped up. Had to use flash because it wasn’t light yet (I am a very early riser!)

^ Me wearing it, for scale. Also note: I braided my hair is a whole bunch of tiny braids to get that effect. I like it. :)

Quant from Knitty

h1 Friday, December 21st, 2007

I knit this in just a couple days. It was my first project with Entrelac. I have to say, I think I’m addicted to it! I plan on casting on for another today.

Pattern: Knitty’s Quant

Yarn: Paton’s SWS in Natural Pink

This yarn is 30% soy, and so soft and shiny!

^ Serenity modeling it. (Yes, my glass head has a name…)

DNA Tank

h1 Friday, December 21st, 2007

I worked on this through the summer, and finished it before school started. It nearly ripped my soul in two, but when I finished it, I was so glad. This is my first garment, and I do admit it was a challenging one.

Pattern: DNA Tank
Yarn: Valley Yarns Longmeadow in Purple

This yarn is 60% cotton, my first time knitting with it. I have to say, it is so soft and has great stitch definition. I’ve got a skein or two left over that I may make a headband or hat out of.

I should have made it longer, but I just wanted to be done with the thing. As you’ll notice, I didn’t finish the edges of the neck and arm holes, as the pattern said. It looks fine without it, though I may add it in the future.
