Afghan Pictures (and Kittens!)

h1 Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

So I got the camera!  Turns out one of the kittens (most likely Oliver) knocked it into the trash can.  Luckily it was just a paper trash can, so no unidentified food (rejoice!).

Here’s my progress after three days of working on the Halloween Afghan.  The colors are turning out just stunning.  I went to Michael’s yesterday to buy two more skeins of yarn for it, and they were having a sale on t-shirts.  It was 5 for $10.  So I bought ten.  A lot of them are humongous and I accidentally got one in a kid’s size.  That is going to be cut up for other purposes.

And, since it has been a while, here is a kitten pic!  They’re cuddling in the sun on the bed.  That’s Rocky on the left and Oliver on the right.  Rocky is becoming such a moose (that’s a good thing, I want a big cat)!

I’ve Caught the Crocheting Bug!

h1 Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

Since the spring, I have been knitting 9″ x 7″ rectangles for the charity Warm Up America! when I get a chance.  I have only done 5 since then because I’m not a fan of monotonous knitting and it seems to take forever to do those little rectangles.  But this week, while sitting at home with a bad cold, I decided to try crocheting instead.  I’ve always heard that it is faster than knitting, but WOW!  Something clicked while I was crocheting and suddenly I was speeding up.  I’ve been able to crochet 2 different rectangles in the past three or four days.  A major improvement!

Since i was crocheting so fast, I’ve decided to make myself an afghan.  The pattern is from here, and is worked in one big rectangular piece.  In about a day (granted, I stayed home sick yesterday so I had a lot of extra time) it is already about 1 foot x 2 feet.  Well, I’m too lazy to measure it so those are very rough estimates from a girl who can’t judge measurements (i.e. me).

The yarn I’m using is Caron Simply Soft, which is my all-time favorite acrylic.  I’ve got a whole skein left over from a scarf that is bright orange (and i mean BRIGHT).  So this is a Halloween Afghan!  Black, dark purple, lime green, and fluorescent orange look fantastic together.  Hopefully it will be done by Halloween, but I’m planning on having it out all year long anyway.

No pictures yet because the camera is nowhere to be found.  I have looked and looked but it has decided to hide itself.  Maybe one of my loving family has taken it somewhere…

The Everything Harry Potter Swap - Received

h1 Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

I received from thetiniestspark today for the HP swap! Thanks so much Jenny, everything was amazing and totally made my day.

First off, two necklaces and a bracelet. A chocolate frog (yum), dragon, and a Ravenclaw crest. I tried to get a close up but, well, it came out a little blurry. Can’t decide which one to where first.

The jewelry box (love the house crest on it, so cool) and the Diadem of Ravenclaw. I am so going to wear this tomorrow to enhance my wisdom.

A tote bag with the Prisoner of Azkaban cover in six different languages. All these covers are fun to look at the different art and it is my favorite book.

Magnets with different spells on them. These are going onto the fridge or some other metal thing (locker?). I may have to make myself some magnets in this manner to stick everywhere.

And a group shot including a stationary set for Harry Potter and some sticky notes. I adore sticky notes. And these are Harry Potter so wow!

I was having a totally bad day but now I’m in a good mood with all my new geekery. Thanks so much, Jenny!
