Days of Happiness

h1 Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

So many good things! First, we got kittens! Yes, real, squirmy , cute kittens! I have grown up with cats, and never been without one until our dear Peanut passed away about a month ago. The family agreed that we were not ready to live without some fuzzy kitties around the house, so looked around until we got Rocky and Oliver.

(That’s Rocky on the left and Oliver on the right)

Just to keep with the theme of craftiness, this is a pic of Rocky exploring my spinning wheel! Let’s just hope he doesn’t do that while I am spinning…

Yesterday as I was on that kitten high, I sold my first yarn on Etsy! Shipped it off today - I’m so excited! It was my Summer Rainbow Handspun.

The kittens are calling to me (well, more like my mind is screaming ‘Pet a kitten!’) so I will find one.

Spumoni Handspun

h1 Thursday, June 21st, 2007

I am obsessed with Spumoni ice cream.  It’s just so good.  Because of my adoration of this, I decided to try and make a yarn that looked like spumoni.  I got out my dyepot and my acid dyes and tried it out.  See, I only have three colors of acid dyes: blue, yellow, and red.  I’m too cheap to buy colors that I can mix with the three primaries that I have. This is why so many of my dyed yarns don’t come out like I thought they would.  But that’s okay.

In a rare occurrence, pictures were taken today, the same day that the yarn was finished.  The reason for this is my wanting to put it up for sale on Etsy.

Here it is!

DNA Cable Tank

h1 Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

My big project for the summer is a DNA Cable Tank.  It uses size US 5 needles.  I am using a cotton yarn called Valley Yarns Longmeadow in Purple.

I decided to start with the back, since it the simpler.  A diamond lace pattern is worked throughout.  This is the most challenging thing I have done, since it has both shaping and a lace pattern.  I have to adapt the lace every row to work with the decreasing.  it isn’t that hard, but not mindless.

So far I have about 6.5 inches, and I have finished the waist shaping.

I’ll try to get a picture up soon.

Rainbow Handspun - First Up for Sale

Finally, I took the plunge: listing one of my items for sale on Etsy.

I’m quite worried, wondering if anyone will buy it. Now all I have to do is wait! This weekend I finished a new yarn. The first I have made of its kind, colorful and made of scraps. For the first single I used purples blues blues and the second single was bright colors: green, red, orange, etc. Looking at the bobbins before I plied made me feel uneasy, since they are so different.

Plying was just a dream, though. All the color combos were interesting and I discovered new ones I liked (yellow and mauve, who would have thought?).
