Sewing Machine

h1 Sunday, May 21st, 2006

I have been teaching myself how to use my mother’s sewing machine, which makes everything go a lot faster. I still take about fifteen minutes to change the thread or wind a bobbin, but I am getting faster.

I have also realized that the seam-ripper is a best friend of mine. It has helped me a lot when sewing something for the first time (I probably took out half the stitches I did when first using the machine)

I hope that now I can use the sewing machine that I can make clothing for myself.

Starry Purple Purse

h1 Saturday, May 20th, 2006

This purse was made with purple fabric that had shiny stars on it and black polka-dot fabric on the inside. This was the first purse I made, and it turned out well. (Well, the first purse I made didn’t work out, because I misread the directions, so I am counting this as my first purse)

It probably took an hour or two to do, but that was mostly because I take a long time cutting the pieces.

I didn’t realize that the stars wouldn’t stand up to ironing, so I ended up ironing a few of them off. It made this a little more difficult because I had to put another piece of fabric over it.

Here it is:
