The first doll that I made. I drew a pattern by hand for both the doll and her dress.

I had a hard time with stuffing the arms and legs, since they are so thin. Her legs are very long, which I like to do with my dolls.

I love her hair! It took me a while to get her hair so long, and so much of it. Also, I ended up cutting off half of it to make all of it even.

Her dress is a black fabric with detailing of ribbon

Mermaid Doll

I love mermaids, such as drawing them, so much that my bathroom is painted green and has mermaids all over. I thought that a mermaid would be a fun doll to make, especially since I wouldn’t have to make legs.

I found some white fabric (about three yards of it!) leftover from a civil war dress I made (a project for History: the white was for the apron). Then I found some green that looks like how I imagine a mermaid tail would look. When digging through the closet, a tangled skein of copper-red yarn that I (after a while) untangled and used for her hair.
It probably took about six hours total to make, though not all at once. It was split up over two days, with breaks for food (sadly, we must all eat sometimes XD).

First: Made a pattern by simply drawing it on paper, then tracing on cardstock and cutting it out. I put it on cardstock so that it would be stiff enough to trace around.

Second: Cut out arm, body, tail, and fin pieces.

Third: Sewed and stuffed the doll.

Fourth: Added hair (yarn tied into bunches and hot-glued on)

Fifth: Drew on her face with a pigma pen and a sharpie.

I’m thinking of scanning in the pattern and putting instructions up. Maybe after I finish my finals.

Craft Blog

h1 Saturday, January 21st, 2006

Today I was sewing an arm for a mermaid, when the idea popped into my head that I should make a craft blog! I love showing my work to other people so I figured that this was the best way. My plan is to post the different crafts I do and possibly instructions on how to do them (i.e. patterns and such).

All I have to do now is stop being lazy and write the entries for my crafts I did recently and get the pictures up and running. XD
