3 Funky Skirts

h1 Saturday, September 30th, 2006

Made these over the summer:

This took about two long days, since I had to cut sooooo many squares.

I wised up for this one and used strips instead of squares.

Jeans Recon- did this in May or June I think.

The Tick Messenger Bag

h1 Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

It started out as a backpack and was transformed into a messenger bag.

^After I washed it off (to lazy to dry it) ^
I found it in the back of my closet when cleaning it out. I don’t even remember getting it, but thought it was awesome. This was my first ever recon into a bag, but I think it went fantastic.

^The final product ^

The plan was to line the bag with orange, but there was only enough for the underside of the flap. My favorite part (it took a great deal of time too) was the strap. I cut the original straps off the backpack and sewed them onto the strap in a way that I can still adjust the length (since my hands always have to have something to do).

There is also a pocket on the outside under the flap.

Alas, I always forget the interfacing so it isn’t that stiff. Next time I will remember!

Polka Dot A-Line Skirt

h1 Friday, August 4th, 2006

My first time putting in a zipper and doing a skirt from scratch (just recons before). I think that polka dots are my favorite pattern. Especially black and white polka dots.

This started out as just an a-line, but I wanted to add pleats for length and to dress it up a little. First time doing pleats, and it took longer than I expected.

The X Bag

h1 Friday, August 4th, 2006

I got a pattern for this like six months ago. After I cut the pieces, I left it until the beginning of July. Usually I don’t use patterns, so the instructions took a few times to figure out. I just adore these fabrics that I used in the purse.

Detailing of the pockets (why it is called the ‘x bag’)

I didn’t like that the bag wasn’t lined, so if I make something like it again I’ll figure out how to line it. (and make it smaller)

Swirly Civil War Dress

h1 Monday, July 10th, 2006

Over two days, I made this dress! The skirt doesn’t have as much material as was asked for, but I found it to be gathered enough. I also didn’t make the skirt as long, so that I could just sew the fabric in a tube instead of using panels.

It fits like a dream, though!

I walked around the house after I finished in it until I went to bed. All that fabric is a little hot for the summer, but I may wear it for Halloween. (This is definitely a first! I always wait until just a few days before to scrounge up something),

Pictures will come soon! (It’s in the high 90’s out here, so I don’t want to put it on just yet. )
