Twisted Fibers

I carded a batt from some wool top that I dyed. I also added a ton of firestar and angelina, since sparkle makes everything better.

It is about 150 yards, though I am too lazy to go and count again.

My plan is to use it to weave it into something to put on my purple-tastic wall. I need a lot more, though.

I wove up the rest of the yarn from “I Want Candy” into a longer, thicker, and all together better scarf. It is much more even, and about 5.5 feet, so long enough.

This scarf is almost 9 feet long.  When I warped it, I just eyed it, so that is why it is so long.  While weaving, I was all “Why is this scarf taking so long?“  When I finally unwound it, I realized that it was insanely long.  Like almost Doctor Who length *geek reference*.

My next plan is to weave something for my wall, which is very boring (but purple!)

Knitting led to spinning and I realized it would soon lead to weaving. And it did! I just bought a 24″ Beka Rigid Heddle Loom that came in the mail Tuesday. After struggling with the vague instructions with weird/unintelligible illustrations, I finally figured it out. It would be much easier to have a person teach me, but my aunt (a weaver) lives two states away, so no go.
I’m just so excited! I have 100 yards in the same colorway that I’m planning to make another *longer* scarf with.

I’ve wanted a loom for ages and finally took the plunge and ordered one yesterday. It’s a Beka 24″ Rigid Heddle and I can’t wait for it to get here!

In preparation I have been spinning some roving I bought from Marion at Etsy. The colorway is “Candyland” and I spun almost 100 yards, 2.7 oz. I Navajo-plied to keep the color changes in tact.

I finished it this morning, and still have a little more than an ounce left of the roving.  I’m going to spin up the rest today, then hopefully weave it into a scarf or something on my loom when it comes.

The past two days I have spent knitting for The Everything Harry Potter Swap over at Craftster, so I haven’t been spinning a lot. It’s ironic that no matter how much I spin, I still knit with commercial yarn. xP My stash is currently taking up four bins of varying sizes.

My newest yarn: Swamp Magic. I spun it from a batt I bought from hobbledehoy, which was the first time I have spun from a batt. It is so very sparkley and also squishy. A 164 yd single that is about worsted weight.

Kittens. Adorable. I swear that they only grow longer and fatter, and no taller. These kittens are so much fun, though we still have to keep them separate from the doggies. Oliver is fine with them, though Rocky (the bigger kitty) is scared witless of them.
